Keep Researching: Education Grounded in Excellent Research

The study programme is always grounded in cutting-edge research and the latest academic insights in the relevant fields. In addition, our study programmes ensure that all students have the best opportunities to develop research competencies and foster academic integrity.

What?

The study programme’s teaching practice is grounded in cutting-edge research and the latest academic insights in the relevant fields. Lecturers are independent researchers dedicated to providing academic training and nurturing academic creativity in their students.

The Programme Committee ensures that the curriculum aligns with recent developments in the field. For annual lecturer appointments, the Programme Committee also ensures optimal alignment between available research expertise and the curriculum’s course units. In addition, the Programme Committee encourages lecturers to update their course units regularly with the latest (own) scientific findings and cutting-edge research. Where possible, the curriculum offers students innovative concepts and tools to help them solve complex social issues.

Gradually, students develop research competencies that enable them to create new knowledge and insights. An attitude of academic integrity always takes centre stage. The Programme Committee monitors the coherence of the research strand in the curriculum. The gradual acquisition of research competencies culminates in a Master's dissertation on a topic that aligns with current (doctoral) research.

Why?

In Ghent University’s dynamic education context, our six strategic education objectives guide decision-making on education policy, both now and in the future. At Ghent University, we continually benchmark our ambitions for education against these objectives. In doing so, we consistently deliver state-of-the-art education.

At Ghent University, we expect each study programme to align with and implement our six strategic education objectives. One of these objectives is ‘Research grounded in Excellent Research’.
